AGMG+ Acronym
AGMG+ is a reinventive, alternative acronym for those who are part of the LGBT Community and who would like to adopt a more modest take on our community's values.
The AGMG+ acronym and model, coined by the founder of Dignity Month, centers on love, relationships and family rather than on sexuality. The acronym is designed to allow our intimate lives to remain private and modestly out of reach while also securing us with an important way to discuss who we are and who we love in our family-friendly Community.
The AGMG+ model uses romantic orientations as identities rather than sexual orientations. This simple shift in language is potentially more respectful and considerate of people, and is what the AGMG Community offers. Thus, the semantics of the orientation-identities have also been transformed: the adjectives "homo" and "hetero" have been removed entirely and have been replaced with more inclusive and humanizing terms.
Acronym spelled out:
Androromantic: People who are romantically interested in men and masculinity (Andro).
Gynoromantic: People who are romantically interested in women and femininity (Gyro).
Mixed-romantic: People who are romantically interested in both genders (bi-romantic) or in gender-variant people (pan-romantic).
Gender-variant: People whose gender identities differ from societal norms (non-binary) and prior upbringing (transgender).
+: All other members of the AGMG Community.
Androromantic Men (Gay Men)
Gynoromantic Women (Lesbians)

Shifting towards romantic-orientations as identities helps us to apply the most useful, community-building parts of the LGBT identity model while also relieving us from having to identify with labels that uncomfortably describe our most private, intimate lives. These romantic-orientation identities also work better for those who are religious or spiritual, have trauma from their past, or simply feel uncomfortable with being labeled according to their sexual orientations.
Why a romantic-orientation identity?
